I was planning on writing about something else today, but everyone already knows about my theory on how Too Close For Comfort contributed to a semi-permanent change in our economic policy with China, so I’ll move on to something more substantial instead.
How about some movie news? Specifically some movie news about movies that are being made about comic books and the news that might be about them specifically. Was that a run-on sentence?
First up, in the “comes as a shock to nearly no one” category, we have two reports of Samuel L. Jackson being officially cast as Colonel Nick Fury in the new Iron Man movie. Since it’s publicly known that the Ultimate version of Nick Fury was based on Jackson’s image, this certainly isn’t groundbreaking news. Though it does add more credible star power to a movie based on a guy in a flying metal suit. And, really, did we ever need to see this happen again?:

Next up is word that Cillian Murphy seems to be reprising his role as Scarecrow in Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight sequel. As long as the director doesn’t muck up the script at the behest of the studio (a la Spider-Man 3), I think this is a good way to transition from one villainous encounter to the next.
In news that no one should really care about, Cowboys vs. Aliens has been picked up by DreamWorks and Universal. I still remember that whole debacle about Platinum Studios paying comic shops to order the graphic novel in bulk just so they could claim it was a “best-selling” book. Which is even funnier considering the bad press Platinum got lately about not paying anyone else. And really, cowboys versus aliens? How is that even a fair fight? Who would actually pay to see this? And why am I still writing about it?
Moving on, here’s a phone camera view of the new Incredible Hulk poster (from the New York licensing show courtesy of Wizard):

And, finally (and also from the licensing show), here’s a weird-looking blonde chick on Batman’s new speeder bike…erm…Batpod?:

Seriously, am I supposed to know who she is? Because she keeps sending me dirty photos and it’s making me uncomfortable.
